Environmental pollution

Written by admin on Aug 22 2007 | General

Any kind of pollution is hazardous for our living. Air, water, land pollution are probably more familiar to people than other environmental problems. A more recent and dangerous is the noise pollution. A matter of great concern is the radiation and chemical pollutants coming out from nuclear power plants. There are various kinds of pollutants. Carbon monoxide, sulphur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, particulates, hydrocarbons and photochemical oxidants are the major air pollutants. Pollutants like smoke which are directly emitted into the atmosphere from the various polluting sources are called primary pollutant.

In the atmosphere primary pollutants may undergo changes by reacting with sunlight, moisture, or with other primary pollutants and formed secondary pollutants. Man has been disturbing the natural environment directly or indirectly through his domestic, agricultural and industrial activities. Water resources are badly affected by heat, toxic metals, acids, sediment, animal and human waste and synthetic organic compounds. Noise is rapidly becoming the most widespread environmental pollutant. Noise damages hearing, interferes with our sleep, conversation, concentration, relaxation and leisure. Few of us can escape it.

The power of leisure

Written by admin on Aug 02 2007 | General

Leisure is a very desirable thing. Being in leisure means we are free from our duties and occupation. We are happy when we are free from our routine jobs. People use their leisure in various ways. They go out for a walk or dig in their gardens, or play at cards or indulge in outdoor or indoor games. Many people simply do nothing in their leisure. They take complete rest. It is a good thing to rest so that one will be prepared for one’s work after sometime. But the best use of leisure is the change from one type of occupation to another type. Rest does not mean, and should not mean, cessations of activities.

Life is full of opportunities and we should not misuse and waste our time. We think that doing nothing is a glorious exercise of our liberty. If we sit idle our desires and fancies begin to work. And when desires begin to work the only way to control them is to limit them in some form of work. Some of the popular ways of using leisure are novel-reading, theatre going or pleasure hunting. But the danger of such activities is we become slaves to such past time. So we much use every moment of our leisure and engaged them in some useful occupation. This will enable one to escape from dullness and introduce variety into life which is the spice of life.

Effects of Terrorism

Written by admin on Jul 05 2007 | General

Terrorism has now become a global issue. It is one of the man made disasters facing the world today. It is an act of violation of human rights. Any act of criminal violence or intimidation by any individual or group, causing terror and violation of human rights, may be called terrorism. It may be local, regional, national or even international in extent. We heard of terror attacks in various public places. It creates fear and panic all around.

Life in this world has become insecure because of global terrorism. The terrorist attacks in the USA on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon on September 11. 2001 are examples of last variety. Cross border terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir is another example of this kind. Terrorism is now a global phenomenon and no state in India is now free from the problem although the measures to deal it may differ. The law and order enforcing agencies throughout the world find themselves helpless in meeting the growing challenge posed by terrorism.

A good leader

Written by admin on Jul 03 2007 | General

A good leader is necessary in a society. But it is hard to find a good leader. A good leader has some special quality. We lack good leaders and that accounts for our deterioration. A good leader should be a genuine path finder. He knows the people and their environment He should have the courage to act on what he preaches.

A good leader should identify himself with his people. He should meet them, mix with them, and be one of them. A good leader should be able to rise to the occasion. It is only the times of distress and emergency that leader mettle is tested. Mahatma Gandhi was a good leader. He was wedded to truth and non violence. He stood firmly when there were trails and tribulations. His life was really a series of experiments with truth.
