Any kind of pollution is hazardous for our living. Air, water, land pollution are probably more familiar to people than other environmental problems. A more recent and dangerous is the noise pollution. A matter of great concern is the radiation and chemical pollutants coming out from nuclear power plants. There are various kinds of pollutants. Carbon monoxide, sulphur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, particulates, hydrocarbons and photochemical oxidants are the major air pollutants. Pollutants like smoke which are directly emitted into the atmosphere from the various polluting sources are called primary pollutant.

In the atmosphere primary pollutants may undergo changes by reacting with sunlight, moisture, or with other primary pollutants and formed secondary pollutants. Man has been disturbing the natural environment directly or indirectly through his domestic, agricultural and industrial activities. Water resources are badly affected by heat, toxic metals, acids, sediment, animal and human waste and synthetic organic compounds. Noise is rapidly becoming the most widespread environmental pollutant. Noise damages hearing, interferes with our sleep, conversation, concentration, relaxation and leisure. Few of us can escape it.
